About the Art
Located on the back of the FEED Media Art Center building at Commerce St., between East 13th and 14th streets in Erie, Pa.
This is 32' interactive mural tells story of the Mill Creek Flood of 1915, which ran through Commerce Street (the alley that runs in front of the mural). It also shows that the flood led to the construction of a 2.3-mile underground tunnel beneath the city of Erie. The mural will show this through an augmented reality experience using your phone — coming soon.
The mural was painted by Erie community members with acrylic paint on a polytab fabric and is attached directly to the building’s brick wall. The painted image depicts a real 1915 photograph of the damage along French Street.
This artwork is the second public art installment of the Hidden Creeks Project, with a 3rd to follow this fall! The initial piece is located on the front lawn of the Erie Insurance Arena.

Artists, Collaborators and Community Members
The artist team includes the Looking Glass Art Project and Erie Art Company, with lead artists Tom Ferraro, Ed Grout, Steve Mik, and Brad Ford. Together, they bring experience from community engagement through final installation.
Inspired by the resourcefulness of the Erie people who built the Mill Creek Tube, the artists combined traditional art and augmented reality (coming soon) to celebrate Erie’s history and spirit of innovation.
